Compare HGV training routes from the South East
GS practical licence training is based at Dunsfold Airport near Cranleigh, Surrey GU6 8TB. Surrey, Hampshire, Sussex, Berkshire, Kent and London are areas served by the guidance pages, not separate GS training branches. The course venue depends on what you book: do not assume ADR, Transport Manager CPC or OLAT classroom training is at Dunsfold; confirm the written offer for the arranged venue.
Compare Category C rigid-lorry training, the Category C to C+E upgrade, or direct C+E from a full car licence. GS also offers C1, D1 and D1+E practical courses; full Category D bus/coach training is not currently offered.
Before you compare HGV training costs in the South East
The right price comparison starts with the licence route and whether you need an initial Driver CPC. GS practical training is delivered at Dunsfold Airport, Cranleigh; use the current course cards for the option that fits your licence and driving goal.
1. Start with the vehicle category you need
Choose Cat C for rigid lorries, Cat C+E for articulated vehicles, or C1 where a 7.5-tonne entitlement is the relevant requirement. If you already hold a vocational category, check the course description before comparing it with a direct route from a car licence. Compare the current HGV, C1 and C+E course options.
2. Separate the licence route from professional Driver CPC
Government guidance says the route starts with a full car licence and provisional entitlement, followed by the relevant tests. Full Driver CPC is normally needed when driving an HGV is the main part of your job, unless an exemption applies. Read GOV.UK’s HGV and bus driver qualification guide before choosing your route.
3. Check what the published course price is for
Use the price note and inclusions on the relevant course card, rather than comparing a headline figure alone. The practical course, the category chosen and any professional qualification requirements can affect what you need. For a wider explanation, see the HGV licence cost guide.
4. Treat funding as an eligibility check, not an assumed saving
Government-funded HGV Skills Bootcamps are free for eligible learners, but providers can set additional criteria. GOV.UK says applicants must be 19 or over and hold a full category B licence. Check the current provider and course requirements through GOV.UK’s Skills Bootcamps guidance.
5. If you already hold Driver CPC, plan periodic training separately
Qualified professional lorry, bus and coach drivers normally need 35 hours of periodic Driver CPC training every five years. Review the Driver CPC course options and GOV.UK’s periodic-training rules; for help matching a course to your situation, contact GS Driver Training.
