A C1 licence is your ticket to becoming an ambulance driver, a delivery driver for many supermarket and parcel delivery firms, or a removal specialist. It is also often required for operating specialised equipment mounted on a truck chassis, such as cherry pickers.

Is the C1 test easier than the Category C (Class 2) test?

Generally, yes. The C1 vehicle is smaller and more manageable than a full-size Category C lorry, which can make the test feel less intimidating. The training and test principles are similar, but the smaller vehicle size often leads to higher pass rates.

How long does a C1 licence last?

Your C1 entitlement is valid until your licence is due for renewal. However, from the age of 45, you must renew your vocational licence every 5 years, which includes passing a D4 medical. From age 65, this renewal becomes an annual requirement.

Can I tow a trailer with a C1 licence?

You can tow a small trailer up to 750kg. If you need to tow a heavier trailer, you will need to take an additional test to get your C1+E entitlement.
